Life has gotten pretty busy and the one thing that I let slip was these letters to both of you, highlighting our memories and random daily activities. We’ve been busy these past few months to say the least.
Chace started Pre-kindergarten and is loving it. Most of the class has returned so he is settling back in just fine.
After summer school ended, we took a nice road trip to San Francisco and then Lake Tahoe and while I was nervous that you two would hate the long hours spent in the car, you actually both did really well. We managed just fine and had a fantastic time in both places.
We hiked, climbed rocks, played mini golf, skipped rocks at the lake and overall had a blast as a family.
Harper has been busy while Chace is at school. She is counting to 5, drawing every moment she possibly can and is basically running my day. She is going through the terrible two’s at the moment and that makes it hard to get the things done that I want to do. Previously I would workout after dropping Chace off at school and then go and run errands. Well, after a few too many tantrums in Trader Joe’s and at the bank, I realized that she does better when I run errands first, and then workout. It all has been an adjustment. She is down to just one nap a day and while I would love for her to sleep until she wakes up, some days we have to go and get Chace from school so her nap is sadly interrupted. Luckily, she has been a good sport about it. She knows that going to get Chace at school means more play time with the big kids on the playground.
It’s fall and one of my favorite times of year. Pumpkin patches, Halloween costumes, apple picking, butter pecan lattes from Coffee Bean, scarf and boot season(yes, even in California I wear these fall favorites).
Stitch Fix is still part of my life and I will post an updated fix soon.
I love Stitch Fix but was unable to receive fixes for awhile and when I finally scheduled one, I couldn’t wait for that pretty little box to arrive at my doorstep. If you don’t know what Stitch Fix is, you can read about it here, but basically it is a personal stylist that sends you 5 items specifically picked out for you right to your door. The size and style is based on a profile and it’s pretty spot on in my opinion. If you like what you see, and you click on the links and sign up, I get a referral credit. =) Thanks to those that have already done so!
I opened it immediately and luckily both kids were napping so it was the perfect time to try on the 5 items and see what I liked and didn’t like.
This is what I got in my Fix #5:
1. SANCTUARY RIZZO SKINNY PONTE PANTS
These black pants are so comfortable! They are thicker than leggings but not as stiff as jeans. They fit perfectly and looked great on. You can’t go wrong with a good pair of black pants, right?
2. UNDER SKIES AIYA EYELET DETAIL BLOUSE
I loved this blouse immediately. I like the silky feel, the shorter sleeves and the details are beautiful. I can dress it up or wear it casually. I have already worn this out to a fancy dinner and also to a low-key school event. Love that!
3. UNDER SKIES CROCHET DETAIL TIE-NECK BLOUSE
This cut and style did not appeal to me at all. It was way too boxy and did not flatter any part of my body at all. It made my shoulders and arms look huge and that is not the look I am going for! It was returned.
4. YUMI BERNIE POINTELLE DETAIL KNIT TOP
This color is beautiful for spring. It is a light-weight knit top that fits perfectly. I like the length for wearing with skinny jeans and can easily be worn with a skirt tied with a belt at the waist or simple shorts and sandals. This top is going to be great for the spring and summer.
5. ADRIANNA CIRCLE BIB NECKLACE
It is very cute but not something I would wear often because I am often carrying my daughter and it has too many details that she would pull on. It wasn’t a very good picture but you get the idea.
I kept 2 items, the off white Eyelet Detail Blouse and the Yumi Bernie Pointelle Detail knit top. I loved the way they fit and looked with various items I had already. They will look great with shorts in warmer weather and skinny jeans in cooler temps. I already wore them both!
Sorry for the terrible pictures. I am working on how to show these better. I need a personal photographer! =)
While I loved the pants, I was debating whether or not to keep them because I have pair of skinny black pants. I ended up returning them, but regretted it a few days later. I emailed Stitch Fix and they agreed to try to include them in my next fix. I just loved the way they looked on and they were thicker than leggings which is a huge plus in my book. I had received so much positive feedback so I wanted them even more after that.
Hope you enjoyed peeking inside my latest Fix!
Well, my Stitch Fix came and once again I was like a kid in a candy store. I knew it was coming and practically was staring outside the window every hour looking for the mailman with my coveted Stitch Fix box. If you don’t know what Stitch Fix is, you can read about it here. It’s my personal stylist that comes to my door in a box every so often. =)
I was a little sad to see that the side of the box had been opened, but luckily when I opened the box, all 5 items were there and were not tampered with. Phew!
This time I received a scarf, dolman top, two blouses and a tank top. Let’s get right to the contents!
1. PFISTER CROCHET DETAIL SLEEVELESS TOP
This was a black tank top that is linen and I just don’t really like linen or how this fit. It was plain and not something that I really loved. It went back!
2. WREN V-NECK CAP SLEEVE JERSEY TOP
First of all, I am not a fan of jersey at all. I just don’t like how it lays and while this was a great length and fit, I don’t like the color red on me or the material. This went back as well.
3. CORINNA STRIPED DOLMAN TOP
This I loved the second I pulled it out of the box. The fabric, the colors (I am a sucker for black and grey), the length and style. I tried it on and was in love. It was hard to take off. I realize this is not something that one would purchase in the middle of summer in southern California during a heatwave, but I loved it so much, I am sure I will find plenty of places to wear this when our weather turns a little cooler. It was a keeper for sure!
4. BOWERY BIRD PLEAT FRONT BLOUSE
I guess my stylist(s) think I have a thing for birds because this is the second pattern with birds on it that I have received. I took this out of the box and loved the fabric and the length right away. I love the colors and totally couldn’t wait to try it on. Had to pry the black and grey dolman top off first though! Another piece that I had to have. This is a great looking blouse and light enough to wear during the summer and into the fall. I paired it with skinny jeans and wedges and wore it right away. Love! Another keeper.
5. MULTI COLOR CHEVRON STRIPE SCARF
I love scarves and wear them all the time. I love chevron and grey too. I just didn’t care for the orange in it. I don’t know why but it wasn’t something I fell in love with so it went back as well. Had it been another color with the grey, I probably would have kept it. I think scarves are a great way to accessorize especially with a baby and toddler around. It hides so much. I often have to hide spills or dirt marks that my kids leave on me so scarves are the perfect accessory for me. Unfortunately, this one was not added to my huge collection.
It was a great box and I was so happy with the two items I kept. I had been getting fixes monthly, but stopped and decided to just get them every so often. It’s so much fun and it keeps me wanting more. If you want to try it out, please do so. I think you would love it!
While I tried everything on, only 2 things really made me swoon, so that is what I kept. Remember you can specify the price ranges which is great. It can be tailored to your own personal budget. Love that!
On another note, please vote for me here. I would love to be in the SoCal Top Mom Bloggers for 2013. You can vote once per day and I would totally appreciate it! No signup is necessary. Thank you!
Well, I finally had a free moment to try on the clothes from my 3rd Stitch Fix and take pictures. I also took some of the striped dress I received in my 2nd fix and paired it with a few different things since that was what I was wearing at the time. If you are not sure what Stitch Fix is, then you can read about it here. I personally love the service and the clothes. I have yet to get a fix and not keep at least 2 things.
My 3rd “fix” came just this week and I gave a sneak peek here.
Now here are the details of everything that I received, what I kept and what I sent back.
1. Skinny White Jeans
For this fix, I didn’t specify anything in particular but they must have known how badly I wanted a new pair of skinny white jeans for spring and summer because low and behold, I received the perfect pair. I loved them the minute I tried them on. I will have to alter them because I am short and have to alter every single pair of pants or jeans I buy. Tailoring clothes just makes them look better so I tend to do that on some staple items. This is what was recommended for the jeans.
2. Striped Multi Color Tank (See Above)
I loved this immediately as well. It was the perfect length and I loved the look and feel. I kept the tank as well. This is what is recommended for this tank.
3. Silver Stud Earrings
These are cute and I love wearing studs right now because I am holding a baby a lot and don’t want her pulling on dangling earrings, but I did not like the price tag so I didn’t keep these.
4. Owl Print Shirt Dress with Belt
This dress is very cute. I liked the way it fit but I did not like the owl print. You can’t really see it in my terrible iPhone pictures, but it just wasn’t my style. I would love it otherwise. Also, I am a Mom and I tend to be bending over to pick up my kids, their toys and other things so I think getting a lot of dresses right now it just not for me.
5. Purple Jersey Wrap Dress
I didn’t like this as soon as I took it out of the box, but I wanted to try it on to see if maybe I was wrong about my impression of jersey wrap dresses on me. Nope, I was right. Unfortunately, they just don’t look good on my body. This one was unflattering and so it went back as well.
For this fix, I kept the skinny white jeans and the striped multi color tank. I contemplated the Owl Shirtdress but I just didn’t see myself wearing it all that much because of the owl print all over. Overall, this was another great selection for me. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for me next month!
On another note, I happened to be wearing the striped dress I received in this fix, so I decided to style it a couple different ways since I didn’t in the last post. Let me know what you think! Please excuse the messy hair and guest room. I took it downstairs because that room has the best light at that time.
Striped dress with Chambray Shirt
This is what was recommended and I have this jean jacket, but it was just too hot today to wear it. I chose to wear it with the belt and bracelets.
I have to apologize for the poor quality photos. I am just working with my iPhone until I get a time when I can have someone else take the pictures with a better camera. This is just to get a sense of what I got and how I would wear it. Hope you liked reading and viewing my 5 items Stitch Fix sent me.
There is a waiting list so when you sign up you may have to wait a couple weeks before they get back to you on styling your first fix. If you want to sign up, I suggest you do it soon because the waiting period will just continue to get longer as time goes on. It’s convenient and you can stay within a set budget. Let me know if you try it, how you like the service, and what you receive.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Dear Chace & Harper,
It arrived! My third “fix” from Stitch Fix came today and I have to admit, I was looking outside every time the dogs barked because I was sure it was the delivery of my coveted package.
If you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, it is basically a personal stylist that you never meet but selects 5 items of clothing and/or accessories for you based on your style, size, and budget. It all is delivered straight to your door and you have 3 days to try it on with whatever you already have in your wardrobe. They even attach the cutest cards that show ideas on what to pair the item of clothing with. It gives me great ideas and I have used the suggestions on a few outfits from my previous “fixes”. You pay a $20 styling fee, but that amount is deducted from anything you purchase from your fix. Additionally, if you purchase all 5 items, you get 25% off the total.
There is a waiting list so once you sign up, you have to wait a couple weeks before they are able to style you and send out your first fix. When I started, it was a 2 week waiting period, but a friend of mine just signed up a couple weeks ago and she was told the waiting period could be 1-2 months. So if you are interested, sign up sooner rather than later.
I was lucky that Harper was napping and Chace was busy making triangles out of his toy cars. (A new obsession of his since Daddy started teaching him how to make shapes with cars and then count them.) It was the perfect time for me to open and quickly try on everything. Nothing like opening this box and seeing this:
I immediately go straight for the clothes and do not open the envelope first because I don’t want to know the prices or brands. I just want to see the clothes, try them on to see the fit and then make my decision if I like them or not. My final decision will be after I see the price, but so far the clothes are all within the set budget I gave my stylist.
Sneak peek at what I received in my 3rd “fix”.
I will be trying everything on again and taking pictures of the items paired with things I already own. Can’t wait to share more!
If you want to read about my previous fixes, they are here and here. I highly recommend this service for anyone (i.e. busy moms, working professionals, college students etc.) who love to shop but can’t go to the stores and spend all day trying things on. I know for me, the second I get to the store and pick out things that I want to try on, one of you gets frustrated or bored and it ends up being time for us to leave. I don’t like rushing so Stitch Fix is perfect for me!
If you want to try it too, you can click here to sign up. (Full Disclosure: I get credit for the referral.)
Stay tuned for another update on the things that I kept and what I returned (if any)!
Dear Chace & Harper,
Today has been another interesting day. I started off on the right foot by getting us out the door before 9am. Yay! That is usually virtually impossible, but I needed to get to the dry cleaners before Daddy had to go to work. Made it there in plenty of time, dropped off some clothes and then headed home. Got home and immediately realized I forgot to bring the clothes that were ready. I conveniently left them hanging on the rack after the nice lady brought them out and hung them up for me. Great! Had to put both of you back in the car and head back out. Luckily, you were good and didn’t fuss about having to get back in your car seats and sit in the car for another boring ride. I should have known something like that would happen since I didn’t have this before we left:
I definitely need to remember to stop and get coffee before doing anything else. Otherwise, who knows what else I might forget!
The rest of the day was spent doing some of our normal everyday activities around the house.
After scooting around the backyard and playing with everything possible, we headed inside for more fun. A little PlayDoh and a lot of cars filled up the rest of the afternoon before it was nap time.
Chace loves to build ‘towers’ out of just about anything that will stack. Then loves to hit it and see it come crashing down. Boys!
Our day would not be complete without these two making an appearance.
All the while, Harper and I were playing and practicing this….
Harper is loving being able to sit up, but isn’t completely stationary yet. It’s fun to see how hard she concentrates when she is seated. It’s a whole new world for this kid. She loves to sit and observe whatever Chace is doing and he loves to entertain her. Dance parties are a family favorite.
After nap time, we headed out to get some delicious food for dinner. Daddy won’t be home so it’s take out for us!
On another note, I received an email that my 3rd Stitch Fix order has shipped. This just makes my day! I will be stalking the mailman until I have that pretty package in my hands. Can’t wait! If you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, you can read about it here.
Dear Chace & Harper,
What a wonderful weekend we had! (I apologize in advance to anyone reading this that is in the midwest and still not out of winter in April. This will include a lot of warm weather activities!) We definitely took advantage of the beautiful, warm weather and spent a lot of time outside. Saturday morning we all went for a run. I was so happy that Daddy joined us because that meant that I could run without the jobbing stroller! This is such a nice change for me because I am so much slower while pushing both of you up and down the hills all around the neighborhood. We made the customary stop at the park for Chace to play and parked Harper in the shade so she would be nice and cool to continue her nap. Chace and Daddy played and ran around while I completed my workout with lunges, tricep dips and squats. (Boy am I feeling those today!)
We got home and showered quickly so we could enjoy the rest of the day. We headed to The Coffee Bean (our favorite) and Daddy and I each got our signature drinks while Chace enjoyed a treat as well.
Harper needed a nice nap at home so Daddy and Chace went out to run some errands while we stayed home. It was a busy day but one that was very productive. We had a big family dinner and after both of you went to sleep, Daddy brought us ice cream! And by “us”, I mean just Daddy and Mommy. Sorry, it was late and Daddy had lost a little bet we had, so he had to go and get it. It was delicious and I promise when you both are older, he will bring it for you too.
Sunday was another perfect day. I took both of you on a short run in the morning. I was still sore from the previous day’s workout so I didn’t go for a long run. We even stopped at the park, but Chace wasn’t too excited to play alone, so we headed home shortly thereafter. It was nice and warm so Uncle Dan set up the inflatable slide/pool for Chace and Kaelyn to play in. You two could be in there all day if we let you! I remember just last summer how Chace was too small to climb to the top by himself. Glad to see he has grown and can manage all on his own.
We had lunch outside in the shade with Kiley, Uncle Dan, Poppy and Harper while you guys continued to play…..never stopping for a minute.
Finally, Kaelyn and Chace got hungry and stopped briefly to enjoy a few bites before going back to splashing and sliding for what seemed like an eternity. Harper and I just relaxed, ate and then finally Harper took a short, much-needed nap. Watching these two could make anyone sleepy.
(Love the Stitch Fix dress from my second fix.)
The afternoon rolled around and it was time for the kids to nap. So we reluctantly said ‘Goodbye’ and headed inside for nap time. We had to rest up because another family dinner was being prepared by Momo for later in the evening.
The weather was perfect for all the outdoor activities and we are hoping it stays that way for awhile because we have many more fun things planned in the next few weeks: Disneyland, strawberry farm, school orientation, take your kid to work day, and a family work picnic. Can’t wait!
